Bhadrapada It is customary to celebrate Shukla Panchami, also known as Rishi Panchami, two days after Hartalika Teej and one day after Ganesh Chaturthi. On the English calendar, Rishi Panchami day currently falls in August or September.
Rishi Panchami, which translates to “seven sages,” is a day of fasting observed by women as a way to honour the Sapta Rishis and rid them of the Rajaswala Dosha.
Hinduism places a high value on purity, and there are severe rules for upholding both physical and spiritual purity. Hinduism holds that women’s periods expose them to contamination.

Women are forbidden from touching any family members, cooking in the kitchen, or taking part in any religious activity while they are menstruating. Rajaswala Dosha is produced when these rules are disregarded. To remove Rajaswala Dosha, it is advised to fast on Rishi Panchami.
Hindus of Nepal are more familiar with Rishi Panchami. Rishi Panchami marks the end of the three-day Hartalika Teej fast in some areas.
