In an interview with Buzzfeed, Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann disclosed that the studio might never release The Last of Us Part 3. Due to the popularity of the HBO adaptation of The Last of Us, this subject has been brought up.
Despite being among the best-selling video games ever, The Last of Us Part 1 and The Last of Us Part 2 have no guarantee that there will be a third part. According to Druckmann, who also participated in the HBO series, Naughty Dog has no plans to continue the story. He said I know there are a lot of people asking whether or not there will be a third part”.
I could only respond that Naughty Dog is “extremely fortunate that our publisher Sony has supported us at every step of the way and has followed our passions,” before adding that “simply because something is successful, people believe there’s all this pressure and we have to develop a followup.” That’s not always the situation.
He concluded by mentioning Naughty Dog’s popular Uncharted video game series, adding that despite its success, the developer was able to “place our final brushstroke on that story and say that we’re done.” He said, Moving forward It depends on us if we intend to continue or not.
We will tell a story if we can arrive at one that is both interesting and has this statement about love that is universal, just like the first and second games did. If we are unable to come up with anything, Part 2’s concluding scene will serve as the end.
